Utena Reference

Utena
First Worn at AnimeIowa 2002
Awards Won: Second Runner Up/Masquerade Skit

I had wanted to do an Utena-themed cosplay and had originally made this costume for myself, but instead chose to do Anthy. With a few simple alterations, I adjusted the costume to fit my friend Amber, who was attending AnimeIowa with me (and who is the gal posing in all the purdy pictures.)

I made this shirt by altering a blazer I had found in a thrift store. The epaulets I made from polystyrene discs with tubes of gold fabric wound around them (to which I sewed the incredibly overpriced white decorator fringe.) I was really proud of the shoes, which I found in the same thrift store as the blazer and which were exactly the right colors. As a finishing touch to the outfit, I made a little rose signet ring out of friendly plastic (which I somehow lost when I went to sell the outfit on ebay. Bummer.) These pictures by the way, (and the ones on the Anthy page), were taken at the beautiful Clemens/Munsinger Gardens in St. Cloud, MN on a very nice, yet very HOT summers day.)
