Guts/Gatts
Pauldrons, Breastplate, Belts & Knives

One of my more ambitious armoring assignments to date. The most difficult task in this project were the shoulder pauldrons, the plates of which had to be individually crafted and then fastened together. Another tough task: Figuring out a way of painting the armor so it would look metallicky (which is a tough thing to do if one is working with shiny black paint. Usually it comes off looking plasticky.)

Another challenge was the gauntlet, which I made by wrapping foam around a glove. (I didn't do the spring and wire elbow assembly, as I figured I'd never be able to do it justice unless I made it using real metal and lots of expensive tools which I don't have.) The belts proved difficult, as I couldn't use vinyl to make them (as vinyl would've reacted chemically with the paint I used to coat the armor with, causing it to come off.) Instead, I had to use an expensive, leather-looking fabric substitute. I had to make the knives myself as well, but those were easy, just knife-shaped bits of foam covered with plastic and bent slightly in the middle.
