Sailor Moon Eternal
I knew sooner or later I would get a request to do a character from this series, as ubiquitous as it is. The design is based partly on the above artwork and on the work on another cosplayer whose pictures were sent to me as reference. (Parts of the costume were purely of my own design as well.) The person who had ordered the costume from me was someone for whom I had made a previous costume, so I thought it would be perfectly alright if I began working on it before receiving the first payment. I was wrong. Oh, so horribly wrong. After months of empty promises and unpaid e-mails I finally put the costume up for sale on ebay for half the price I had originally quoted for it. There were no takers. I posted it again. Still no takers. Then a woman from England e-mailed me, saying she had an interest in the costume. I agreed to sell it to her for the auction price and, after receiving her payment, I mailed the costume out to her---whereupon the US postal service quickly lost it. (It was insured, Thank God, but it was a hassle trying to convince the Postmaster that the object--a homemade costume without a fixed commercial price--was actually worth the cost I had it insured for.) So the long and short of it is, this beautiful costume which took me over 40 hours to make is gone forever, and I hereby vow I shall never make another one like it. (Unless someone is willing to pay me 500 dollars to do so and send all the money to me in advance. Then I might reconsider.)
As for construction notes- this was my first attempt at creating a leotard and I think I pulled it off rather well. The wings I made out of leaves of craft foam covered with sequin fabric and edged with white feather trim. The leaves were sewn to a piece of balsam wood to which I attached thin elastic straps. The wings were, as such, lightweight and easy to move around in. Most of the accessories I made out of painted craft foam, plastic Christmas ornaments and various other materials.
Due to the nature of this fabric, there was a lot of handsewing involved with this project. And a lot of brainstorming involved in creating the accessories. (Sure would've been nice if the costume had survived long enough for someone to wear it to a convention. Oh well, I learned some important lessons with this project, so it's not a total loss. But still...*sigh*.....)
