Worn at AnimeIowa 2003 for a Few Brief Minutes

I'll spare you the sad backstory behind this costume. (It's basically this: I made it for a friend who chose NOT to attend a convention we had been planning to go to together. I found an alternate friend willing to wear it, but he wasn't all too crazy about cosplay or this character and so he only spent a few minutes in it--and he didn't look all that happy in the pictures I took of him so I decided not to post them here.)

Anyway, as far construction notes go, this costume was one of my most ambitious projects to date. The leather armor I created by cutting and lashing strips of vinyl together. The sword I made by altering a plastic kiddie sword, and the scabbard, belt and buckle I had to make from scratch. The boots I ALSO had to make from scratch-- I created them out of thick carpet foam which I sewed to a rubber sole. This costume took lots of work and about 30 hours to make (and yet it was only worn for 30 minutes, tops. I think I must have a massive streak of masochism running through me to devote myself to projects which take up so much time and yet get so little time in the spotlight.)

I still have the costume, and maybe, when I have enough ambition, I'll post it up for sale. But for now, it sits in the basement along with my Lady Chris armor and that EGL dress that scares my parents...
