Long-Sleeved Dress
First worn at AnimeIowa 2004

I started watching Naruto, thinking it would be a ninja version of Dragonballz, and I was surprised how much I liked the series. I liked it so much that I wanted to cosplay a character from it, so I chose Sakura (in her nice, forearm-concealing winter dress.)

I made the dress using my Patternmaster software, creating a shell which I cut down the front to create the angular opening. (I used a wide zipper for the front closure, as that was easier to place a bend in than a narrower zipper.) I used stitch-witchery and fabric to create the white circular decorations, which I sewed to the dress.

The green shorts were a thrift-shop find, and the sandals I made by sewing fabric to a pair of foam sandal soles that I bought at Walmart.

I was proud that I was able to make the headband rather than go the easy route and just buy one off of ebay. I used foam and plastic for the metal plate portion of the headband. The wig I made by buying two pink wigs at a Halloween store, pulling the hair off of one and then sewing it onto the other to create more fullness.

I made myself a kunai out of a metal eye-loop screw with a foam and plastic "blade." (It was as nice as a resin one, although it took a long time to make. It would probably be cheaper and less trouble for me to just buy kunai off of ebay in the future.)

Short-Sleeved Dress

I received a request to create the short-sleeved version of Sakura's dress. Other than the lack of sleeves, a slightly different decoration on the dress, and a slightly different treatment of the front closure, it was put together in much the same way mine was.
