First Worn at Anime Iowa 2006
Awards Won: Best Sempai (Experienced) Workmanship and Best Sempai (Experienced) Presentation

What motivated me to make this costume was my love for the Breath of Fire video game francise and my love for absurdly over-the-top costume designs. The most difficult part of this costume I knew would be the wings, so I started making them months before I started anything else. Using Feather Wing Tutorial @ Paper Wings Cosplay as a rough guide, I constructed the wings out of chicken wire and cotton batting. I then ordered about a pound and a half of feathers from Rainbow Feather Co. which I had them dye purple and pink. I had to construct the wings in such a way that I would be able to attach them to a harness (as I needed to transport them in a car). The skirt of the dress is made to go over a hooped crinoline. The gold "feathers" around the base of the hem have been made from styrene covered with gold vinyl. The purple and white "armor" at the waistline was made from styrene and craft foam, painted with enamel. (the gold ornaments on the armor were made from plastic and hotglue, and all of the large gemstones were cast from resin.) The shoulder armor was made using 2 giant 10" plastic Christmas ornaments (decorated with hotglue scrollwork and resin gemstones.) The crown was made from sculpey and styrene glued to a metal headband. All in all, the costume took about 5 months to complete. (Special thanks to College Buddy Jared for helping me haul it around, and to the Cosplay Ninjas and fellow masqueraders who helped me with it backstage at AnimeIowa 2006.)
