A project I started for a friend of mine which seemed to get more and more elaborate as the weeks went by. Seeing as how there's so many Kakashi's running around these days, I wanted ours to be the best, so I sought out decent reference pictures of the character (and found them at Bakachan.com), and went from there.

The vest I created from altering an existing unisex winter-jacket/vest pattern. (I started by creating a muslin of the pattern, which I then sectioned off into the various pieces with a marker. I cut the muslin apart, and altered the pieces to fit together to resemble the finished vest.) I bought a 5" jounin patch on ebay and sewed it to the back of the vest. The hardest thing to do, by far, were the pockets, which had to be made as separate items. I had to hand-make the clasps out of styrene, sew them onto strips and then sew them onto this box-like fabric structure I had created. Then sew the finished pockets to the vest itself. (The whole vest took about 15 hours to make, and it's no wonder.)

I made the sandals by sewing navy knit fabric to a pair of foam flip-flop soles I bought at Walmart. I made the plates for the gloves out of styrene, foam and denim studs.

I created a few accessories for the costume, including some summoning scrolls out of yuzen-washi and calligraphy paper, and a "Makeout Paradise" manga cover. I found a perfect-looking white spiky wig last Halloween (which I made even more perfect by rubbing it with charcoal to make it grayer.) I made the headband myself instead of electing to buy one. (I had to since very few of the headbands on ebay have the fabric band dip down to conceal the wearer's left eye.) The forehead plate I made from styrene, foam and denim studs, painted with metallic enamel.
