Worn at AnimeIowa 2003

I'll spare you the sad backstory behind this costume. (It's basically this: I made it for a friend who chose NOT to attend a convention we had been planning to go to together. I found an alternate friend willing to wear it, but he wasn't all too crazy about cosplay or this character and so he only spent a few minutes in it--and he didn't look all that happy in the pictures I took of him so I decided not to post them here. I later sold the costume.)

The leather armor I created by cutting and lashing strips of vinyl together. It took several hours.

The black tunic I designed and made out of a black suit fabric which I trimmed with gray tape. I made the shoulder pauldrons out of craft foam which I covered with a leatherish-looking brown fabric.

The black, long-sleeved undershirt and trousers were thrift shop finds.

The spiky black wig I special-ordered, and the eyepatch I made out of vinyl and elastic.

The sword I made by altering a plastic kiddie sword I had bought at Walmart, and the scabbard, belt and buckle I had to make from scratch out of vinyl.

The boots I ALSO had to make from scratch-- I created them out of thick carpet foam which I sewed to a rubber sole. (That sounds so simple. The actual procedure was a gazillion million times more complicated than that and no words of mine could ever do it justice. Really.)
